One of the most important skills in your arsenal will be Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Because Search Engine Marketing is the most commonly used marketing method on the internet. Now let’s face it, after you have built a website or blog you would like for people to find it in search engines like Google or Yahoo, because that is where you will get the most amount of traffic if your website’s SEO is done correctly.

Basically there are two types of SEO:

This is composed of mainly Keyword optimization, meta tags, and title tags. While Meta tags are not as important as they where a couple years ago, they are still being used by search engines like Yahoo and MSN Search.

This part of SEO is the hardest of all and the most important. Off page SEO is all about creating Backlinks to your website. The idea is that if there is another website linking to your website this will count as a vote for your website and will make you rank better in searches. In the end the more “votes” you have the better chances you will have of landing on the first page of Google for a specific keyword. The more competitive the keyword is the more backlinks you will need to outrank the website already on the first page.

Here are some SEO tips to keep in mind:

-Stay away form Black Hat SEO ( These are methods that will get you banned form Search Engines)

- Try to get websites with higher page rank to link to your website.

- Research the keywords you would like to rank better for and optimize accordingly.

- If you have a fairly new website try not to go after the more competitive keywords. ( It is better on the first page of Google for less competitive keywords than on the 10th page for more competitive ones)

- Try not to get linked or link to websites that Google does not like or are banned from Google Search.
